Short Story Competition
We all love a good story. So here’s your chance to show us your storytelling skills. If you’re aged 7-13 enter our competition and write us an original, imaginative 500 word story about ‘My Amazing Invention’.
Entry Details
Two age groups: 7-9 years, 10-13 years.
Write a story in 500 words on the topic ‘My Amazing Invention’.
Stories can be hand-written or typed and illustrated (not obligatory).
Each entry must be headed with child’s name, age group and school.
Post entries marked Short Story Competition to Sarah Haythorn, Chiddingstone Castle, Kent TN8 7AD.
Competition closing date: Friday 1 April 2022.
Prizes
The winning stories will be read out at our Schools Day on Tuesday 3 May, published in Britannica Magazine and included in the festival podcast. Winners will also receive complimentary tickets to Michael Morpurgo’s event on Sunday 1 May plus a goody bag of fabulous books. There will be a winner, a runner-up and a prize for best illustration in each age category.

Opening Hours
CASTLE, COLLECTIONS & TEA ROOM
The Castle, Tea Room and Gift Shop are open Thursday to Sunday from 12 March to 1 November 2026. Except when closed for private events.
PARKING IS CHARGED ALL YEAR ROUND
Parking is free for the first hour, then charged at £1 for up to 2 hours or £3 for the full day (+20p Ringo fee).

Open daily 7am - 6.30pm except when closed for private functions
