Helping to raise additional funds

Donating through Gift Aid means Chiddingstone Castle can claim an extra 25p for every £1 you give. It will not cost you any extra but will make a huge difference to our fundraising for the year.

When you donate or buy a castle admission ticket, you’ll be asked to confirm whether or not you are a UK taxpayer. Please note that Gift Aid can only be reclaimed on donations made by individuals who pay UK income or capital gains tax. Your overall charity donations must not be more than 4 times what you have paid in tax in that tax year (6 April to 5 April). 

The Gift Aid scheme is unique to the UK. If you are not a UK taxpayer, you can still purchase an admission ticket, but your donation will not be eligible for Gift Aid.

If you are a higher rate tax payer you can claim back the difference between the tax you’ve paid on the donation and what the charity got back when you fill in your Self Assessment tax return.

When it comes to leaving gifts to charity in your will. Your donation will be taken off the value of your estate before Inheritance Tax is calculated. If 10% or more of your estate is left to charity, your Inheritance Tax rate may also be reduced.

You can donate:

• a fixed amount
• an item
• what’s left after other gifts have been given out

Can I support more than one charity?

You can directly support as many UK charities as you wish using the scheme so long as:

• Generally, you complete a declaration form (see later) for each charity that claims Gift Aid on your donations;
• The total Gift Aid reclaimed by all the charities that you support does not exceed the total tax that you have paid (see earlier warning).
