VE Day Street Party: The VE Daymes, Lindy Hop Dancing, Mick Howard

Friday 8th May : 12.45 – 13.45

VE Day Family Event : £0.00

Location: Outside the front entrance to the Castle

When VE Day dawns on 8th May 2020 it will be 75 years since the guns fell silent at the end of the war in Europe. To commemorate this anniversary, we intend to join in the VE Day 75 celebrations, paying tribute to those millions at home and abroad who gave so much to ensure we all enjoy the freedom we share today. To celebrate we have put together a fun line-up of dancing, singing and music from World War II.

Bring a picnic or buy food from our tearooms and food stalls and join our Castle Street Party. There’ll be tables, benches and bunting where you can meet and mingle over lunch. Watch dancers perform the Lindy Hop and enjoy a chance to join in. Local musician and all-round entertainer Mick Howard will play his ukulele and at 3pm Mike Glossop will lead a minute’s silence followed by sounding the Last Post.

The V E Daymes, directed by Sue Stone, will perform a programme of well-known and well-loved WWII songs. Usually known as The Beech Green Singers, they are a friendly group of local ladies who enjoy singing together.  New members are always very welcome, please contact Sue if you are interested in joining the choir, which generally rehearses fortnightly during term time.
