Those who work with the earth have known for years; there’s a miraculous quality to gardening, it isn’t just a hobby, it’s a vital space for cultivating your mind, your health and your well-being. In a world where research shows the average child spends less time outside each week than a maximum-security prisoner, we need to understand the value of the outdoors, and the tremendous benefit it can give. With new research collected from different cultures around the world Sue Stuart-Smith shows how our increasingly urbanised and technology-dependent lifestyles make it more important than ever to rediscover a closer relationship with the earth.
