This is a unique opportunity to draw some Japanese artefacts from the Denys Eyre Bower collection. Artist Gilly Lovegrove will give guidance and advice on drawing techniques for still life. Naomi Collick, Curator at Chiddingstone Castle will give an insight into the history of these beautiful objects from the Edo period (17th-19th centuries).

There will be a choice of four still lifes:
- Porcelain vases with floral display
- Metal sake pourer, lacquer cups and ceramic sake bottle
- Wood and metal Buddha with incense burners
- Samurai armour, sword and silk fabric sword cover

We will look at how to draw three dimensional objects; studying surfaces, reflections and highlights. We will study how to interpret pattern and texture in a pencil drawing using line, tone and mark making. Whether you take one or all of the workshops there will be individual tuition on the still life you choose to draw. Suitable for all levels. Materials are included (bring your own if preferred). Due to the delicate nature of the collection it will not be possible to use painting materials.
