CHIDDINGSTONE CASTLE
|
The Bower StudyDenys’s life was not without controversy. In 1957 he was imprisoned indefinitely, accused of the attempted murder of his girlfriend, as well as attempted suicide. The press was fascinated by the story and made a sensation of his trial and sentence, however, a miscarriage of justice was eventually proven and Denys was released from prison in 1961, returning to live in the castle. Denys was said to have been a ladies’ man and also had a passion for Rolls-Royce cars. The reconstruction of Denys’s study aims not only to give you a taste of his passion for objects of high quality and beauty but also to reveal more about his life and persona. This includes items from his time in prison, his home-made magazine shedding more light on his childhood, a number of photographs of Denys, as well as his furniture and many of his personal items. |
